I want to change the employer
I want to change the employer or a job function with the same employer. What should I do?

An foreigner is allowed to change the employer or a job function with the same employer during the validity term of the possesed temporary residence permit.
You must personally apply for a permit for the renewal of employer or job function and submit the following documents:

- application to change the employer or the job title at the same employer;
- valid travel document;
- number of mediation letter for change of an employer or the job position with the same employer;
When your profession is included in Shortage occupations list of the Republic of Lithuania by types of economic activity, the mediation letter must additionally include the following information:
- your qualification and its compliance to the employment position;
- your work experience according to the qualification within the last five years, your present and/or previous employment company (s), where you have worked by qualification for the period not shorter that one year over the last five years, employment duration at the mentioned companies (s) and the job duties.
An employer has to make sure you have the relevant documents proving your qualification (diploma, training certificate etc.) and your work experience by qualification for the period not shorter that one year over the last five years (employment record book, reference from your present and/or previous employment company).
If you enter Lithuania on visa-free regime or if you are a citizen of the Republic of Belarus coming to work for a company which is included into the list of approved companies, the mediation letter must additionally include the following information:
- your qualification and its compliance to the employment position; or
- your present and/or previous employment company where you have worked for the last 5 years according to the profession indicated by your current employer, the employment duration and job duties.
An employer has to make sure you have the relevant documents proving your qualification (diploma, training certificate etc.) or your work experience according to profession indicated by your current employer for the period not shorter that one year over the last five years (employment record book, reference from your present and/or previous employment company).
- A decision by the Lithuanian Employment Service about compliance of your work with Lithuanian Republic labour market needs, in case you require evaluation of your work compliance with the Lithuanian Republic labour market needs. Submission of physical (paper) copy of this document is not required; Migration Department will get the document by way of authorised access.
You will need to pay a state fee:
- for submission of application to change the employer or the job title at the same employer and the release of decision on it – 22 Euro.
For a permit to change the employer or job title, you must contact territorial division of the Migration department.
The decision on a permit to change the employer or the job title is made within 1 month.

- a document confirming that you meet the conditions set out in Lithuania to pursue a regulated professional activity when your professional activity is regulated.
- if you intend to start a job requiring high professional qualification as a company manager, a document proving that the employer, offering you an employment in a position of company manager that requires high professional qualification is a company established in the Republic of Lithuania and the annual income of its participant (a company established abroad or the corporate company) over at least one fiscal year within the period of the last three years (in case a company is active for less than three years – from the date of its establishment) before the date of application submission amounts to not less than 1 000 000 euro;

No, you do not have to get a new temporary permit in case you change the employer or the job title at the same employer.
Yes, in case you intend to start a job that does not require high professional qualification, with the following exceptions:
- you intend to start a job in the Republic of Lithuania after you have graduated from high school or completed vocational education training program in the Republic of Lithuania and apply with regard to it before a period of two years has elapsed since the date of high school graduation or completion of the vocational training program; or
- your profession is in high demand in the Republic of Lithuania and is on the Shortage occupations list, by types of economic activity.
Yes, if you intend to start a job that requires high professional qualification under an employment contract with the following exceptions:
- you intend to start a job requiring high professional qualification and your profession is in high demand in the Republic of Lithuania and is on the Shortage occupations list; or
- an employer undertakes to pay you a monthly salary not less than 3 amounts of average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy (including individual enterprises) most recently published by the Department of Statistics of Lithuania; or
- two years have already elapsed since you started working in the Republic of Lithuania as a highly qualified employee.
You can start working for your new employer or change the job functions with the same employer only after you get a decision of the Migration department allowing you to change the employer or the job functions. The decision allowing to change the employer or job functions with the same employer is valid for 1 month after the date of decision.
Please note that if you do not start working for the new employer or do not change your job functions within 1 month, the decision will lose its validity and you will be required to submit a new application for change of the employer or the job functions with the same employer or an application for issue of a new temporary residence permit.
