You can come to Lithuania on a study or science basis. If you are a student coming to Lithuania according to the student exchange programme, teacher or researcher coming to teach or perform research under a copyright agreement or arrive to implement government programmes, you can get a national visa. If you intend to study at a higher education institution registered and operating in Lithuania (full-time studies) or to work as a teacher or researcher under an employment contract, apply for a temporary residence permit.

If you hold a valid temporary residence permit or national visa issued by another Member State of the European Union for the purpose of study and you are covered by a programme financed by the European Union or its Member States to promote the mobility of third-country nationals within the European Union or by an agreement between two or more higher education establishments, you may come to pursue a part of your studies and stay in the Republic of Lithuania for a maximum of 360 days without a visa, and you can work too.

If you have a valid temporary residence permit or national visa issued by another member state of the European Union for the purpose of carrying out research and experimental development work, you can come and stay in the Republic of Lithuania without a visa for a maximum of 180 days in a 360-day period in order to carry out part of your research and experimental development works in the institution of science and studies. Your family members who have a valid temporary residence permit or national visa issued by another European Union member state have the right to come and stay in the Republic of Lithuania for the same period as you.
