I want to work in Lithuania under an employment contract. How do I get a temporary residence permit?
You must first submit an application for an issue or renewal of a temporary residence permit electronically through the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS). Upon submission of application and after booking the visit time through MIGRIS, you must apply for a temporary residence permit (renewal) in person within 4 months from the date of submission of the application to the MIGRIS and submit the biometric data and the following documents:
Document supporting the grounds for the issue or renewal of a temporary residence permit.
number of employer's mediation letter;
A mediation letter must additionally include information about your qualification and its compliance to your employment position.
If the your monthly salary in the mediation letter and the employment contract is less than 1 minimum wage, document about sufficient means of subsistence;
The amount of subsistence is 1 minimum monthly salary per month. This may be an employment contract.
Document about the place of residence;
A document certifying that you possess residential premises in which you intend to declare your place of residence, provided that the residential area per each adult person who has declared the place of residence at it would not be less than seven square meters:
An undertaking of a natural person certified by a notary of the Republic of Lithuania, an elder of the eldership or an authorized civil servant authorized by the Migration Department to provide you with suitable residential premises at which you will declare your place of residence and which will meet the requirements for residential area per person for the period of validity of the temporary residence permit; or
An undertaking of a natural person certified by a notary of the Republic of Lithuania, an elder of the eldership or an authorized civil servant authorized by the Migration Department to provide you with suitable residential premises at which you will declare your place of residence and which will meet the requirements for residential area per person for the period of validity of the temporary residence permit;
Documents confirming that an employer is sending you employee to another EU or EFTA member state according to the service contract.
No document regarding suitable place of residence is required, if you own residential premises or have concluded with a natural or legal person a lease agreement for a period not shorter than the validity of the temporary residence permit and which is registered with the SE Centre of Registers (Immovable Property Register);
police clearance certificate;
Required only for the application for the temporary residence permit. These are certificates issued by the competent authorities of the foreign countries in which you lived or are currently resident for the last 2 years prior to your arrival to Lithuania (except where you have lived abroad for less than 6 months within a 12-month period) confirming the absence (if any) of your convictions in these states which must be issued not earlier than 6 months before the date of your application for a residence permit, translated into Lithuanian, as well as legalized and/or certified (Apostille) when necessary. If you have convictions, the certificate must state when and for what kind of criminal offense you were sentenced, what kind of punishment has been imposed, and whether it has been served.
A clearance certificate stating that you have no convictions, may be made in the original English language or may be accompanied by a translation of this document to English, verified by the translator’s signature.
The certificate is not required if you have a valid temporary residence permit and you have declared your residence in the Republic of Lithuania.
You must pay the state levies:

Decisions on temporary residence permits are made and temporary residence permits are issued through:
for the issue of permit:

for changing the permit:

Attention: by applying for a temporary residence permit you can apply for a national visa, which will allow you to stay in Lithuania for a period of examination of application for the temporary residence permit.
I have an employment contract with my employer but I do not yet have a temporary residence permit – can I work?
You cannot. You can work legally only when you obtain a temporary residence permit.
Can I bring family members?
Can I change the employer or may job function with the same employer?
During the temporary residence permit, you can only work with the employer who has undertaken to employ you.
If you want to change your employer or work position with the same employer, you must contact territorial division of the Migration departament.
When do I have to apply for the renewal of a temporary residence permit?
An application for the renewal of a temporary residence permit in general procedure with the accompanying documents must be submitted at least 2 months in advance and an application for changing a temporary residence permit and supporting documents must be submitted at least 1 month before the expiry of the temporary residence permit, but not earlier than 4 months in advance.
For how long will I get a temporary residence permit?
A temporary residence permit will be issued or renewed for the duration of your work in the Republic of Lithuania but for a period not exceeding 2 years.
