Foreigners can also declare their place of residence at the Migration Department
2021-01-06

The Migration Department informs that from 1 January 2021 the procedure for declaring the place of residence of foreigners who are issued a document confirming or granting the right to reside in the Republic of Lithuania for the first time changes.

From now on, citizens of the Member States of the European Union and third countries can choose to declare their place of residence:

  • at the Migration Department, upon arrival at the booked appointment time, to submit the originals of the documents attached to the application for a residence permit (certificate of the right of residence in Lithuania) and biometric data;
  • in an eldership or municipality within 1 month from the date of collection of the issued residence permit (certificate of the right of residence in Lithuania).

Foreigners whose applications for the issue of a certificate of the right of temporary or permanent residence in the Republic of Lithuania, a temporary or permanent residence card of a family member of a Union citizen, a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Lithuania or a permit of a long-term resident of the Republic of Lithuania to reside in the European Union have been received before 1 January 2021 must declare their place of residence in the eldership or municipality within 1 month from the collection of the document issued to them. In such cases, the Migration Department will not accept a declaration of the place of residence from the foreigner when serving a document issued to the foreigner.
